10 Ways to Be More Eco Today!

10 Ways to Be More Eco Today!

We can’t all build a 100% green home, and sometimes living a zero-waste life can be difficult with our day to day schedules. But sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest impact. Here are some tips for how to make your life a little more green.

  1. Ditch the plastic to-go containers. There are 269,000 tons of plastic pollution currently floating around in the world's oceans. Next time you visit the Whole Foods hot bar, bring your handy PlanetBox with you - just subtract the weight of the box and you can pay for your food and go! No trash created.
  2. Keep a plant alive in your room or office. Plants help produce oxygen that clears the air. In order to freshen up your bedroom, instead of using aerosol sprays, how about walking down to the nearest nursury and picking up one of nature’s best air purifiers? Spider plants are our favorites
  3. Meatless Mondays. Did you know that A single 50,000-acre hog farm can produce more waste than all of Los Angeles? Imagine how all that waste adds up to have a huge environmental impact. Going without meat just one day a week can make a big difference in the amount of resources we use to fuel the meat industry.
  4. Conserve Water. Take shorter showers or even just turn the faucet off when you’re done brushing your teeth. A little bit goes a long way!
  5. Buy clothes that will last - and recycle clothes that you’re done with. Clothing that gets thrown away often ends up in landfills and doesn’t decompose easily. However, one person’s trash can be another person’s treasure! Donate clothes you don’t want to Goodwill, or even sell them using services like ThredUp.
  6. No more plastic water bottles! Use a handy bottle like the BottleRocket to make sure you stay hydrated all day without making tons of plastic waste that ends up in our oceans.
  7. Carpool! Not only is this a great way to get to know other people in your community, but you’re cutting back on tons of carbon emissions that get put into the air every day.
  8. Use e-tickets. Don’t bother printing out tickets to concerts or the movies - you can save paper by keeping e-tickets on your phone! Most places will be able to scan them upon entry.
  9. Use cloth napkins instead of paper napkins. This greatly reduces the amount of paper waste, plus you can reuse the cloth napkins and repurpose other fabrics to do the job!
